Water rolls over the tightly knit fabric. Because the shade is supported in the center only, the bows curve gently downward which encourages the rain water to run toward either edges. The water cannot pool.

If you choose a blue color fabric, the 10% of light that passes through will carry that blue aura. Light colored fabrics let more sun shine through. Patterns can give you the color you desire but may not carry the aura down to the patio because of the patterns color diversity.

The Sunbrella fabric is heavy. When a pergola is large, two systems might be the way to go.

Typically one end of the shade is fixed - its immovable. The other end has bearings which roll in the track.

We've done projects where both ends have the bearings and eyebolt. Either end can be the lead end.

The shade can be locked at any position along it's route. This gives your family full control of who gets sun and who gets shade.

We provide painted fiberglass shade guides which we put above or below the shades depending on the circumstance.

We also have an aluminum C channel track which fits above AND below the shade bows.

The hand crank has a hook on the end which fits into the eyebolt which is in the leading trolly.

By turning the eyebolt counter clockwise, you remove the tension and the trolly rolls easily along the track.

The hand crank and hook allow you to pull the shade, by way of the eyebolt, to the extended position.

When the shade is extended all the way, pull it taut while cranking the handle clockwise to lock trolley from rolling.

I set this up by myself in two days (using sawhorses to brace the uprights) and although I'm reasonably handy, I'm no carpenter! All in all it was an excellent experience and my hat's off to you for being able to construct and ship such a good kit. Even considering the shipping costs, there is no way we could have purchased lumber and paid people to construct something like this for the same money.
