Traditional Pavilions

Need shade and protection from rain? You should consider our traditional pavilion.

Main benefits of the pavilion:

* Why try to create the feeling of an outdoor room when you can just build an outdoor room?

* What better a place for your outdoor kitchen and television?

* Fully customizable to any size

* Designed for easy assembly with minimal tools and experience.

* Less maintenance than a pergola because all the parts are within the roof.

Traditional Pavilion

wooden pavilion by Baldwin Pergolas and pavilions

Outdoor Office

This pavilion needed switches and outlets, cable television with DVD, wifi, drapery, ceiling fan, patio furniture and a desk! Below the platform we poured nine level footings. Our floor kit requires footings which are in different locations than the site plans which are available on this web site. The floor kit, when properly supported will then support the pavilion.

Outdoor Office

Once the floor was framed and decked, we built the pavilion. The parts are pressure treated southern yellow pine which is very heavy and dense, like hardwood. All the parts come to you graded for quality, cut to length, routed, pre-drilled, and labeled. Our customer chose Canyon Brown stain color which cost another 8%. After the ridge pole and rafters have been framed, the roof decking must be screwed or nailed down. We supply 1x6 pressure treated, tongue and groove roof decking which is pre-cut, labeled and pre-stained.

In a single day, our install team completed the project. The customer was very pleased. We helped him hang his drapery brackets while he tried to sell us life insurance. It was fun watching each other in action!

Vinyl Traditional Pavilions

This slideshow starts with a basic vinyl pavilion and advances showing the leg upgrades.

Vinyl Traditional Pavilions

A simple pavilion with 6x6 posts

No frills vinyl pavilion

Even in its most basic configuration, you can see how simply beautiful our traditional pavilion can be. The addition of drapery tied back to the posts would add some color and really complete the scene. Even without the drapery, this is an inviting destination.

With cupola and superior posts

Please notice the cupola atop the pavilion. It's made entirely from cellular pvc plastic known as Azek. It comes shingled with your choice of shingle colors. The 6x6 posts are dressed up with sections of 8x8 post which have a special recessed section molded in. These leg upgrades are known as superior posts.

Pavilion with 8x8 posts

What makes this pavilion so substantial is the massive 8x8 square posts. They really balance the size and visual weight of the roof structure. I suggest comparing the price of this pavilion to the price of a similar sized Arched pavilion. You will see that the money saved will cover the cost of these beautiful posts over and over again.

The round column upgrade

Nothing says establishment and class like Roman and Greek architecture. It's classic for a reason: The proportions of the Greek and Roman architectural orders were worked out over centuries by groups of brilliant people. Our vinyl columns are of the classic Tuscan order and are architecturally correct in terms of entasis and the various ratios of proportion. We also make the other, less popular architectural orders such as Corinthian available upon special request.

Ivory vinyl

This pavilion has the Roman columns and is manufactured using ivory colored vinyl. It is equally durable and long lasting. You can see the homeowners set up a television in the ceiling of the pavilion which is becoming more and more common these days. Might as well enjoy yourself while you're here.

The primary distinction between this and the more refined arched pavilion is the braces at the top of the posts. They form a bit of an arch and are amazingly strong. The roof pitch of the arched pavilion is steeper and may be more matching to the roof of your house. If those differences are acceptable, then stay right here and save thousands of dollars.

Poolside paradise

There is a peace of mind which can only be reached when you are pleased with your environment. Image the peace that could be found under this pavilion? Call the family - Call the friends - Call the neighbors - It's time to enjoy each others company and host an party that will be remembered.

Vinyl Traditional Pavilions

Stout posted pavilion

This is a 12' x 20' pavilion which means it would normally be constructed with six posts. The posts are deducted from the invoice with a savings but the cost of the glue lam beams out weights the savings... Of course. It's the large posts which make this pavilion look sure footed. Long spans and little legs doesn't always create the most secure feelings.

Fireside pavilion

Patios are not created to be level, so careful measurements need to be taken during the installation. The posts get trimmed to length to match the slope of the patio so your pavilion can sit level. The posts have heavy gauge brackets which connect to your surface. Footings or a slab are required.

Can you imagine a better way to spend the summer season than with the grand children and a case of marshmallows sitting beside this fireplace?

Inside a traditional vinyl pavilion

We are the sort of people that always look up when they enter a church or a large building. We look at the super structure and envision how the weight of the roof is directed toward the support posts. That's why our pavilions are such a pleasure. The attention to detail is never forgotten. The roof framework is as important as the arms of your rocking chair.

If this pavilion doesn't do it for you, then please follow this link and switch over to our Arched pavilion section which features dentils work, arched openings, a steeper roof and 10" inch round tapered vinyl columns. I can say with confidence that this pavilion has all the important features built in.

How to live comfortably outdoors

This pavilion was built for the guy who has everything and never wants to leave home. His wife couldn't get him out of the house till she had this master piece created by a local contractor: It includes a swimming pool, large patio, a fireplace, a kitchen with all the accoutrements and a massive traditional pavilion. It's suited for a king and why not? If you have it, use it.

Pine Traditional Pavilions

These pavilions started an outdoor exodus.

Pine Traditional Pavilions

A pine pavilion

Where it all began

This is our fairly straight forward, pressure treated, southern yellow pine pavilion. It comes in standard sizes and can be customized to meet your needs. It has handsome proportions and assembly is a one or two day job depending on your ability to attach the shingles.

Pine Traditional Pavilions

Pine pavilion with privacy panels

Where it all began

The simple addition of wooden panels encloses this outdoor room and really creates that sense of security and enclosure. We also offer a roll up shade which achieves the same goal, but is of course more flexible. We don't offer the panels on the website because it hasn't been a popular choice, but if you're interested, please call us and we'll bend over backward to accommodate your needs.

Pine Traditional Pavilions

A pine pavilion

Where it all began

This wooden pavilion is fully loaded with options such as the wooden deck which you can order via this website, upgraded 8x8 posts and a cupola. The shingles are architectural grade 30 year, high definition asphalt. As you'll see on our order form, the pergola can be ordered without shingles at a savings.

Pine Traditional Pavilions

A pine pavilion

Where it all began

When people worry about maintenance, a lot of the stress is unjustified. Look at this structure. The only thing to maintain is the stain on the posts and braces and maybe the fascia board. The stain we use has lots of solids which block the ultra violet rays. Through the years you may want to apply more deck sealer, but that's a one hour job which gets done only once every 3-5 years.

Pine Traditional Pavilions

You can tell that this pavilion is a square shape because all four of the hip rafters meet in a point at the top. It's 12x12, but you can reference our site plans to see which pavilion will fit on your patio. Click over to the pricing information and there you will find the site plans.

Pine Traditional Pavilions

A pine pavilion

Where it all began

This is one of our favorite pavilions. It's so large and graceful. The proportions work really well for the site. The maximum span from center to center of the posts is 15' feet 2" inches. Any larger then that and we replace the typical triple 2x8 beams with special, exterior grade glue-lams.

Commercial Traditional Pavilions

Vinyl pergola with 10 inch columns in ivory color

Huge glue-lam pavilion

A fiberglass pergola derives its strength from it's firm connection to a concrete footing or a concrete slab. For that reason, they don't do so well on decks. A post an beam pergola is different. It's strength comes from the connection between the post and the beam. Think of it like a kitchen table. It's strong independently and doesn't require connection to the kitchen floor.

Customer ordering a pergola

The Ordering Process

Measure and photos

Determine where you want the center of your posts. Measure distance in width and depth. Consider height and sight lines. Remember, short pavilions give more shade under the pavilion. Consider the time of day you will use your pavilion and the angle of the sun at that time. Take a few photos of your site and send them to us.

Go online

We have an online pavilion pricing tool you can use to configure your pavilion. When you are using the pricing tool, you will need to select your options such as the size, height, leg quantity, leg type, optional floor kit, electrical option and specific stain color.

The pavilion pricing tool will give you a price for the pergola, your electrical options, awnings and even a trucking quote. It’s easy to modify your pVILION until it is exactly what you desire. You can feel comfortable using this no dicker, always accurate pricing tool. We do reserve the right to adjust prices due to lumber costs without notice.

If the pavilion you desire cannot be built using our system, please enter the pavilion as closely as possible then describe what you would like done differently in the notes section. You can also call our sales team during business hours at 800 344-5103x1 and they will do all of this for you.

When you are pleased with your structure and are ready to talk to one of our designers, click the “Submit information” button. Your data gets sent to us.

On our side

We review your pavilion choices and call you to answer any questions you might have. We suggest making changes that would either make your pavilion more useful or more beautiful, but we also look for ways to reduce the lead time and your cost.

Deposit then Drawings

When all of your concerns have been addressed and pricing established, a deposit gets the wheels rolling. Along the way you can request an elevation drawing of the front, back, or either side so you can see what pavilion will look like. Based on this visual, you may request changes. We adjust your file and explain any changes in price. We also create another visual for your approval. When you are happy with the drawings you confirm every detail and we begin production.

Scheduling & Logistics

During production you may get a call or email from the production team asking about your ceiling fan height or what color light switches you want. When the pergola kit is complete, we require final payment before shipping. If you are within 300 miles, we offer you our in-house, white glove delivery service.

If you are more than 300 miles from our factory, we use Yellow Freight as our over the road trucking company. In case of a freight company delivery, you will be responsible for physically removing the pergola or pavilion from the truck. Unless you have a forklift, this requires entering the truck, unpacking the structure and physically unloading it from the truck, member by member. You are also required to remove all the pallets and packaging from the truck. A freight forwarding service could be hired to preform this service for you, but that expense is typically $700 or more.

Installation

Baldwin Pergolas and pavilions are designed to be very easy to put together, but there are still difficult aspects such as using a level to determine the lengths of the posts, cutting the posts to length, drilling the concrete and anchoring the mounting brackets. If this sounds like more then you want to do, we may be able to suggest experienced installers in your area.
